LIFE AND METAPHORIC MESSAGES OF BHAGAT NAMDEV
Bhagat Namdev was born in 1270 AD to a couple named Damashetti and his wife, Gunabai. Some mention Narsi Bahmani in Marathwada, and some as Pandharpur on River Bhima. He was a calico printer by profession and belonged to the Chhippa community of tailors, which was considered low-caste. Having experienced discrimination, he greatly influenced groups such as women and members of the low- caste communities, who were forbidden by the high-caste clergy from practicing religion and delving into spirituality.
Bhagat Namdev's spiritual message is inscribed in his 61 sabads (verses) in Guru Granth Sahib.
