LIFE AND METAPHORIC MESSAGES OF BHAGAT SAIN
Bhagat Sain was born in 1390 AD in the village Sohal Thatti in Punjab in a family of barbers, and was thus considered low caste. His father’s name was Mukhand Rai, and his mother was Jeevne. Under the tutorship of Rahim khan, he learned Hikmat, a traditional form of treatment using indigenous herbs. To earn a livelihood, he moved to Bandhavgarh and worked as a barber and masseur. During a visit to Varanasi, Bhagat Sain became a disciple of Bhagat Ramanand. Bhagat Sain was the personification of altruism. He diligently performed his duties and served the needy.
Bhagat Sain’s spiritual message is inscribed in his 1 sabad (verse) in Guru Granth
Sahib.
