LIFE AND METAPHORIC MESSAGES OF BHAGAT RAVIDAS
Bhagat Ravidas, a disciple of Ramanand, was born in Varanasi in 1414 AD, to a family of cobblers; a community which is considered low-caste untouchables. Bhagat Ravidas blatantly objected to the notion of a priestly class which proclaimed that caste plays a fundamental role in an individual’s relationship with the Divine.
Bhagat Ravidas’s spiritual message is inscribed in his 40 sabads (verses) in Guru Granth Sahib.
